A hilarious masterpiece in one act by Tomás Breton, La Verbena was a huge hit already at its 1895 premiere in Madrid.

ELISA CORDOVA. bio

Described by Washington, D.C. critic, Susan Berlin, as “…An Artist who sings Rapturously,” Elisa Cordova, a native of Chile, is making her mark both in the U.S. and internationally.   Ms. Cordova received her operatic training from the Eastman School of Music, Binghamton University and Tri-Cities Opera.   She won the Tri-Cities Opera Guild Scholarship, was a competition winner of the Lotte Lenya Vocal Competition, and the recipient of the Clark Fellowship in 2001-2003.   

Operatic roles include: Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Norina in Don Pasquale, Despina in Cosi fan tutte, Monica in The Medium, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, and Adele in Die Fledermaus, with such companies as Tri-Cities Opera, The Aspen Music Festival, Ashlawn Highland Festival, Summer Opera Co., the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and Tulsa Opera.  She also performed in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway play/opera, The Music Teacher, in collaboration with Allen and Wallace Shawn.

Ms. Cordova is an active recitalist, specializing in Spanish language repertoire.  She has premiered new works throughout the United States, Italy, and Chile in connection with various artists such as minimalist composer Steve Reich and Christopher Larkin.  Ms. Cordova’s will next be seen as Mabel in Opera Carolina’s production of Pirates of Penzance
