BILATERAL RELATIONS

Bilateral agreements

Since the beginning of the relationship between Chile and the United States, both countries have signed several agreements and memoranda of understanding. One of the oldest is the Treaty of Amity of 1833, which entered into force in 1834.

The agreements cover areas such as agriculture, aviation, education, environmental cooperation, extradition, maritime matters and navigation, narcotic drugs, scientific and technical cooperation, space cooperation, telecommunications, trade, visas, and weather stations.

One of the most recent agreements is the United States-Chile Free Trade Agreement, signed in Miami on June 6, 2003, which entered into force January 1, 2004.
