Visa requirements by country: Visa list

 

Applicants should apply for a visa NO LESS THAN TWENTY (20) working days in advance.

Please apply for a visa only at the General Consulate or Consulate closest to or in your State of residence.  Contact information can be found at: http://chile-usa.org/consular.htm.

  • Please apply according to one of the following options:

 

Tourist Visa

U.S. citizens traveling to Chile for recreation, on business or to attend conferences or the like do not need a visa to enter Chile and can stay for up to 90 days. There is a reciprocity fee of US $140 that must be paid upon arrival or entrance to Chile. Payment can be made in U.S. currency or by credit card.

Citizens of other countries should contact the Chilean Consulate closest to their place of residence (http://chile-usa.org/consular.htm).

   
 

Requirements:

- Application must be made in person at the Consulate.

- Valid Passport (Valid at least for the term of the visa)

- One passport color photograph professionally done (2x2in )

- Proof of legal status in the United States.

- Applications forms typed in all caps. (typed, NOT hand written)

- Certificate of letter of employment or profession.

- Explanation as to the reason(s) of the trip.

- Flight reservation.

- Provide a Letter of Invitation, if applicable. Provide the full name and address of inviting person.

- Hotel reservations when there is no contact person in Chile.

- Marital status. If you are married to a Chilean citizen or a person of Chilean origin the marriage certificate must be presented.

- Visas are granted for a period of 30 to 90 days, according to the nationality of the applicant. Each request is analyzed on its merits (case by case) by the Chilean authorities. Visa can be extended for a new period in Chile. These extensions are granted  by the "Departamento de Extranjería of the Ministerio del Interior" in Santiago.http://www.extranjeria.gov.cl/

Student Visa
A Student Visa is required for travelling to Chile to study in Chilean universities or high schools.
   
 

Requirements:

- Valid passport.

- Application form typed in all caps. (typed, NOT hand written)

- Health certificate recently issued and signed by a Doctor stating that the applicant enjoys good health and has no communicable diseases.

- HIV / HTLV test issued by a Health Department, Laboratory, or private doctor.

- Police Certificate (record) recently issued by Federal Authorities stating that the applicant has no records nationwide. (FBI Background Check). http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/emergencies/emergencies_1201.html

- One passport color photograph (2 x 2 in).

- Letter or certificate of financial support (scholarship, notarized letter of financial support from the parents)

- Letter of acceptance from University or School where the applicant will be studying.

- Minors (Under 18 years old) must present an authorization for traveling signed by both parents. This document can be made at the Consulate of Chile (US$7) or legalized the following form (click here). For information about legalization (or authentication) please click here.

 

A visa fee must be paid at the Consulate. Values vary according to the nationality of the applicant. For U.S. Citizens the visa fee is US$140.

 

 

FOR STUDENTS ONLY:

Application can be presented:

- In person at the Consulate of Chile Monday to Friday - 8:30am to 1:00pm.

- By e-mail: Scan all documents and send them in PDF format (The picture on JPG format) to consulado@embassyofchile.org. Please do not scan copies of the documents and make sure that everything is very clear and easy to read before you send them.

- By regular mail, express mail or courier: Send clear and easy to read copies of your documents, including a copy of the passport picture page to:

- Applicants must appear in person for the stamping of the visa in their passports and must bring all original documents.

- APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT ALL THE DOCUMENTS REQUESTED.

INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE DISCARDED WITHOUT PRIOR NOTIFICATION.

- Payment can be made by money order, debit or credit card (Visa or Mastercard). The last business day of the month only money orders will be accepted.

 

   
Working Visa
A Work Visa is required for foreigners that wish to work under a labor contract to be fulfilled in Chile.
 

Requirements:

- Application must be made in person at the Consulate.

- Valid passport. A minimum validity of six months required.

- Application form typed in all caps. (typed, NOT hand written)

- Health certificate issued by a doctor stating that the applicant enjoys good health and has no communicable disease.

- HIV / HTLV test issued by a Health Department, Laboratory, or private doctor.

- Police Certificate issued by Federal Authorities stating that the applicant has no records nationwide. (FBI Background Check). http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/emergencies/emergencies_1201.html

- One passport color photograph professionally done (2x2in).

- Work contract signed before the Consul of Chile.

Medical Certificate and Police Record should be recent, 30 days at the most.

Resident Visa
For those travelling to Chile with relatives or connections in the country, businessmen, scientists or persons that will reside in Chile for a year or so.
 

Requirements:

- Application must be made in person at the Consulate.

- Valid passport.

- Health certificate issued by a doctor stating that the applicant enjoys good health and has no communicable disease.

- HIV / HTLV test issued by a Health Department, Laboratory, or private doctor.

- Police Certificate issued by Federal Authorities stating that the applicant has no records nationwide. (FBI Background Check). http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/emergencies/emergencies_1201.html

- One passport color photograph professionally done (2x2in).

- Proof of financial security (bank statements).

- In the event the applicant is married to a Chilean national, proof of marriage must be presented.

- Personal letter explaining reasons why applicant wants to go to Chile.

- Applications forms (1 and 2) typed and all caps.

Medical Certificate and Police Record should be recent, 30 days at the most.

Diplomatic & Official Visas

To request Diplomatic or Official Visas no pictures or application forms are required. Only thing necessary is a letter from Department of State/Agriculture/Armed Forces, etc, stating the reason for your request and the length of time you will be in the country.

Official and Diplomatic Visas are processed between a window frame of 4 to 5 business days. Multiple Entry Visas can take longer since they must be approved in Chile.
